Elk Valley and Koocanusa

East Kootenay Region

The Elk Valley, in the East Kootenay region, offers a network of designated legal singletrack dirt biking trails along the east side of Lake Koocanusa, accessed via the Grasmere-Dorr Cutoff Road. The trail system is overseen by the Elk Valley Adventure and Dirt Riders Society (EVADRS) who support inclusive relationships and partnerships with all stakeholders and in accordance to the Trails Strategy for B.C.

In the riding community, the area is casually referred to as “Koocanusa” or simply “Kooc”. With approximately 70km of single track, two staging areas and some designated campgrounds, this area is perfect for families, beginners and intermediate alike. Follow the trail signage and the maps on www.EVADRS.ca. Directions and location of the staging areas and campgrounds can also be found on their website.

Note that this area is closely monitored by authorities and remains at risk of closure if the riding community do not abide by the agreed rules. Use the designated staging areas, the official campsites and strictly stay on marked designated trails!

The East Kootenay region offers splendid dual sport riding on a wide network of forestry service roads accessing stunning mountain scenery. Motorcycles are required to be street legal, carry insurance and registration. Further information can be obtained on the EVADRS.ca website.

If you prefer riding a quad or side by side, contact the Elkford ATV Club for information on opportunities and maps.
