When: Sunday March 25th, 2012

Where: Chilliwack, British Columbia (only one hour East of Vancouver): Tamihi Staging Area just off Chilliwack Lake Road. (Corner of Chilliwack Lake Road and Tamihi Liumchen FSR)

Cost: FREE (but we ask riders to have a 2012 BCORMA TrailPass)

Trails BC, ATVBC, BCORMA, and the Province working together to create mixed-use trail network across BC

As many of you know, there has major conflict around summer-motorized enjoyment of the TransCanada Trail rail trails for years. This has escilated to where ATVBC, Trails BC, Provincial trails managers and their Assistant Deputy Minister, and I meet in a basement cement room for 8hrs to hammer out steps to solutions.

We have agreed to using a Respect-Based model, where all trail users acknowledge others wants for a quality trail experience. A tool-kit was developed, and we decided on two sections of the TCT to move our model onto the ground.

Regional District of South Okanagan Similkameen public trails plan meeting this Wednesday evening

The next public meeting for the RDOS Master Trail Plan process is February 15th Wednesday evening 5 - 8pm in Penticton. (See the attached revised schedule)

Come out and have an input into the future of trails in the RDOS. Its your riding, make your voice known. Let the RDOS know summer-motorized trails are important to you.

The weather was great and a group of us started 2012 right by riding the GVMC New Years Day Run. Mostly street bikes, but a group of dirt-bikes-with-plates were there too. Check out the video on the link below.

Chris Harwood was going for a ride on Sunday, January 8th, but I didn’t get the notice in time to notify everyone. Hope he got together with friends and roosted some trails.

Premier Christy Clark announced a BC 5 year tourism strategy last week.

An important part of the strategy is to implement the currently dormant BC Trails Strategy. Quoting the attached government document release, "Implement A Trails Strategy for British Columbia” – an action plan for developing and maintaining a sustainable, world-renowned network of recreation trails for hikers, cyclists, equestrians, cross-country skiers, snowmobilers and summer motorized users."

Lots learned at 2011 NOHVCC Conference

The National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council (NOHVCC) and the International Off-Highway Vehicle Administrators Association (INOHVAA) held their annual conferences in Minneapolis on September 21-25, 2011. Among those attending the joint conference were OHV program managers, public and private land managers, government officials, educators, trail equipment manufacturers and trail builders, OHV industry representatives, and OHV enthusiasts from across the United States and Canada.
