Nicola Valley Dirt Riders Family Fun Ride this coming Father's Day weekend

The Nicola Valley Dirt Riders are a new Dirt Bike club located in the Merritt/Nicola Valley area. Merritt is located about 1 hr drive north of Hope via Hwy #5 or Hwy #1.

Our first event will be a “Family Fun Ride” (Poker Run) on June 17, 2012 (Father’s Day weekend). Adults and older kids entry fee is $20, kids under 9 yrs $10.  See attached poster for more information.

The event is easy to get to and is paved road all the way to the camp areaTake Hwy 5 from either Kamloops or Chilliwack to the town of Merritt, BC.  Travel through Merritt on Hwy 8 toward Spences BridgeTo get to the camp area, go on Hwy 8 to the unincorporated town of Lower Nicola, turn right at Aberdeen Rd (at Lower Nicola corner store called "Courtesy Corner).  The Courtesy Corner store is the only significant building in Lower Nicola.   Turn onto the Aberdeen Road (you can only go North on Aberdeen Rd).  Proceed on Aberdeen Rd for 11K. The camp area is on the left and will be well marked.  Paved all the way.

There will be four different courses:

  1. PeeWee for the very young
  2. Novice/C course that will be easy and designed for the less experienced, or new rider, or the dual sport rider.

  3. Sportsman/B course for the average experienced riders

  4. Expert/A course for the "fast and very experienced guys and gals"

Our objective is for everyone in the family to have a good time (regardless of your experience or skill level) and enjoy a great camping weekend.  Camping is free and we will have concession on site for hot food and cold soft drinks.

All entrants under 10 yrs old will "win a medallion" to show off at school on Monday.  There will be trophies for the top 5 poker hands in each category (PeeWee, C, B, A) and other prizes to be given randomly.

Sign-up starts at 8:00 AM, Riders meeting at 10:00 AM.  Entrants can ride any or all courses.  It will be easy to go from one course to another.  the courses will be "closed" at 2:00 PM and we will have sweep riders to make sure everyone is accounted for and back to camp.  Trophy presentation will be at 3:00 PM so everyone will be "on the road home" well before dinner.

Spoke with the manager of the Ramada Inn here in Merritt (next to Home Restaurant, near Tim Horton, about a 30 min ride to the event) and he will give any motorcyclist a discounted rate for this weekend.

  • Room with 2 queen beds @ $90.00 + taxes per night

  • Room with 1 queen bed @ $80.00 + taxes per night

  • I also believe they have a free breakfast
